WAXFLOWER REAL BRIDES | SAVANNAH IN HOUSE OF OLLICHON

Posted 24/10/2024

When you gaze at the pictures from Waxflower bride Savannah’s wedding day, you can almost feel the magic and love of the day - and the people - seeping out from every single image. Tying the knot in the beautiful grounds of The Old Rectory, Pyworthy in Devon on the 13th July this year under clear skies and an enchanting summer haze, Savannah exchanged vows with partner Luke whilst wearing a truly awesome set of bridal separates from my beloved bridal designer, House of Ollichon

Names: Savannah and Luke

For bride Savannah, Waxflower was actually her first (and, what turned out to be, only) bridal boutique that she visited on the quest to find ‘the one’ (and I’m so happy she chose to be a Waxflower bride)! After an initial appointment and the arrival of our Hobden Trousers by the celebrated bridal separate connoisseurs, House of Ollichon, I knew Savannah needed to see them and try them on. And the rest, as they say, is history. Read on to discover everything about Savannah’s Waxflower bridal separates journey (from the bride herself) including how she discovered my Bristol bridal boutique, to her funniest wedding day moment and the advice she’d give to other brides like you…

#1 How did you discover Waxflower Bridal?

“My friend Polly suggested looking at Waxflower for something 'a bit different' - she'd seen it when she was getting married, but had ended up having her outfit made.”

#2 What drew you to visiting the boutique?

“I thought it had a more interesting Instagram than some of the others I was looking at and seemed less trad.”

#3 Who did you bring with you to the initial appointment?

“I brought my mum and my sister who were visiting from London.”

#4 What type of wedding dress were you looking for? Did you have an idea in mind?

“I knew I didn't want a dress and I knew that I was probably going to get a two piece made - to be honest I had just agreed to try stuff on in a shop to give my mum and my sister that moment in the dress shop!”

#5 How were you feeling about the dress shopping experience before visiting Waxflower?

“I was just going through the motions and didn't think I'd find anything in store as I wanted something very plain.”

#6 How many dresses had you tried on before visiting Waxflower?

“None.”

#7 How did you feel walking into the Waxflower boutique?

“I felt instantly at ease when Kathy welcomed us.”

#8 Talk us through your first appointment...

“We’d just been for lunch at The Albion, just around the corner from Waxflower - so I felt quite stuffed. I talked Kathy through my vibe and what I was after and then pulled some hangers off the rails to try on and my mum and sister grabbed some 'wild cards' for me to try on.”

#9 How many dresses did you try on?

“Probably about five - and I didn't feel at ease in any of them!”

#10 Tell us about the moment you tried on ‘the one’…

“I’d said to Kathy that I'd have a think and let her know if I fancied trying any of them on again, but in my head I knew none of them were the one. Kathy said, now that she knew my vibe, she'd get in touch if anything came in that might work. Then, a week or two later, Kathy messaged and said something was in, in my size and would I like to try it. So I went in and took my friend Robyn this time. I tried on the (Hobson by House of Ollichon) trousers and loved them instantly and then I tried on the top - and it was fine, but I saw another top out of the corner of my eye (House of Ollichon’s Stevenson Top) that I liked the look of more - so I tried it on and LOVED it. I sent my friends pictures of the outfit to get their approval and then decided to go with it a few days later!”

#11 How did you end up styling your wedding ensemble? Did you choose any accessories from Waxflower Bridal?

“I knew I'd probably end up in trainers before long, but a friend sent me some heeled sandals to wear in the ceremony. Then it was just jewels - I picked earrings and a bracelet from my favourite East End Jeweller (and maker of my engagement ring!) Karin Andreasson (@karinandreassonjewellery) and went for a bare neck.”

#12 How did you feel in your bridal look on your wedding day?

“I loved it, I felt like me - but elevated (our dress code for guests was 'the elevated self’). I got lots of compliments and, with an overactive bladder, I loved that I could go to the toilet whenever I needed to without having to be lifted in and out of an extravagant dress!”

#13 The funniest moment on your wedding day was…

“For me, the funniest moment was hearing my friends' surprise reading in the ceremony and realising their reading was in fact Hugh Grant's monologue about Heathrow Airport from the start of Love Actually ;)”

#14 Your advice for other brides-to-be would be...

“If you want good weather on your wedding day, get someone to bury sausages for you - it works a dream.”

#15 What was your overall experience like at Waxflower? Would you recommend us to other brides?

“Absolutely - I already have, my friend Mattie! Kathy is a dream to work with, has good style and obviously really cares about making sure everything’s just right for her brides.”
